Malcolm Stapleton

Principal of Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering; FIPENZ, MICE, MASCE

Malcolm's speciality is Geo-environmental Engineering - the investigation of sites to assess their Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering Constraints.

Malcolm has considerable experience in the review of existing data as well as carrying out site specific investigations to assess stability and suitability for development, including due diligence assessments of contamination and detailed investigations for remediation.

He has considerable skill and experience in the assessment and development of cost effective solutions to geotechnical and environmental constraints on site use including foundation and stabilisation options as well as assessing slope stability, the preparation of contract documentation.

His review of data and reports prepared by others and innovative design has allowed significant projects to proceed on ''difficult'' sites. Similarly, his skill in the assessment of materials properties has aided clients in the defence of and successful pursuit of ground conditions related claims and to win construction contracts. Malcolm has provided similar assistance when failures have affected civil engineering structures/assets.

Malcolm is responsible for the design and project management of the Babbage Team of geotechnical and environmental engineers, geologists and technicians. This includes overview of an IANZ Registered Soils Testing Laboratory. Malcolm has considerable experience in the investigation and design of the geotechnical aspects of a wide range of civil engineering structures and is closely involved in the geotechnical aspects of projects from the concept planning through to construction.

In 2009 Malcolm became a Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers of New Zealand in recognition for his significant contribution to geotechnical and environmental engineering in New Zealand.
