Architecture Award for RPS
Peer recognition for superior design
Babbage Architecture has won a design award in Public Architecture at the NZIA Southern Architecture Awards for the Remarkables Primary School. The school's design will now go through to the New Zealand Architecture Awards in May 2012.
Frank Cleary, Principal of Babbage Architecture, accepted the award at a ceremony on 18 November 2011 at the Kelvin Hotel in Invercargill.
"The high number of entries and the high standard of winners are signs that the region's architects are doing good work in difficult times," said the convenor of the 2011 Southern Architecture Awards jury, Dunedin architect Brent Knight.
Judges called the Babbage design 'a simple and bold building concept informed by advanced developments in creative learning has resulted in a highly valued community asset.'
Frank Cleary was delighted. "It was with great pleasure that I received the award on behalf of Babbage Architecture. The team have done an outstanding job and I am extremely proud of their achievement ... It is particularly satisfying to have your work recognised by your peers."
The Remarkables Primary School has been also recognised with a Southern Registered Master Builders Commercial Project Award and a Property Council Award.
