Principal Architect Presents on Education Design

An industry insight into modern design

Frank Cleary, registered Architect and Principal of Babbage Architecture, gave a presentation in August to the High School Property Managers' Forum on the topic 'Modern Learning Environments'.

Frank gave an insight into the current problems with aging building stock and design, changes in attitudes towards education design over the last decade, how poor or inflexible design can hinder learning and what property managers and other school management should consider ahead of school building projects.

Using examples from Babbage Architecture's portfolio, Frank illustrated his points with images from Green Bay High School, Whangaparaoa College, Oteha Valley School, Remarkables Primary School, Orewa College, Otonga Primary School, Henderson High School and the Learning Studio model.

The Forum was part of the Auckland School Caretakers' and Property Managers' Conference on 11 August and addressed the additional challenges that high school property managers face in running significant sized campuses.  Other speakers included Bruce Sherrin of the Ministry of Education, who commissioned Babbage to design the Learning Studio.
