Babbage was appointed by the developers to assist in the technical and design aspects of the legal claim for a set of 43 elevated townhouses, helping achieve a High Court settlement agreeable to the developer, Auckland City Council and the original architect.
Babbage was then asked to design remediation works and upgrades to the building. We also provided guidance to the contractor as works were undertaken and the full extent of damage to the building determined. As with similar projects, some structural timbers had to be removed and replaced, all timber decks replaced, a new roof installed, and the building fully re-clad.
Upgrades included new oPVC double glazing and kitchen refurbishments.
The developer and the tenants have been pleased with the results. The project was profiled in the New Zealand Herald in December 2010.
