Maria Ouzounova

Principal Architect

Maria can’t resist a professional challenge and the more complex the better, because solving complex commercial, technical and aesthetic challenges will give the client the result they want. She wants our work to exceed the client’s expectations.

Maria, an award-winning architect, has extensive experience in all aspects of architecture, bulk and location studies, master planning and concept design. She has consistently delivered projects to high standards, within time, on budget and under pressure.

Maria completed her degree in Sofia, Bulgaria, and built her experience in Europe and South Africa before coming to New Zealand in 1995. Here, she has been involved in the design and construction of multi-unit residential buildings, retail and education projects, and office buildings. She joined Babbage in 2010 and became a principal in 2012.

She is an unashamed control freak when it comes to the big picture. Her mantra is: resolve the big issues and everything else falls into place. Maria’s goal is to extract the value of a project and compliment it with high-end architecture and aesthetics. As a mentor and leader at Babbage, she insists the quality of the results is never compromised.

Key projects include:

  • ACG Primary School, Tauranga – master planning and concept design
  • Numerous childcare centres with associated retail areas – 141 Lincoln Road, Henderson
  • Several mixed-use developments
  • Concept plans for new town centres and retail precincts – Albany Town Centre, Hobsonville Town Centre, Westfield Riccarton
  • Bulk and location studies and designs for Auckland
