Richard Stretton

Process & Services Engineering Manager, Associate

Richard and his team make large plants come together and work. His 12-person team establishes what’s required for a processing plant, co-ordinates the design, sets the parameters, then ensures the processes and services do what they are planned to do.

Richard graduated from the University of Auckland in 2001, specialising in chemicals and materials, and worked for Fonterra in Hawera and Te Awamutu, before moving to Britain where he worked in the food and pharmaceutical industries. He returned to New Zealand to work at GEA on the Darfield projects, then joined Babbage in 2012 and took over the team in 2015.

Richard’s field is process and chemical engineering, compressed air, waste and gases, and other processes and services involved in processing plants – especially dairy factories – but also the food, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

His work includes project engineering, design, troubleshooting and commissioning.

Key projects include:

  • Novartis B150 project expansion
  • Darfield I and II whole milk powder dryers for Fonterra
  • Lichfield dryer expansion in Waikato
  • Oceania services for Yili in Waimate
  • Yashili milk formula plant services at Pokeno
