Suman Khareedi

Infrastructure Business Manager

Suman has a passion for water – its use, its treatment and its preservation for future generations. As head of the Babbage infrastructure team, he works to design engineering solutions that produce good economic and social outcomes.

Suman is developing a point of difference for Babbage that sees projects engineered to mimic nature, reduce water use, recover nutrients and energy from water, and to re-use it efficiently. He is also working to use technology to monitor water systems, alerting infrastructure managers to issues such as pipe leaks or overflow caused by extreme weather events, and changes in water quality.

His work is driven by a care for the environment and preserving it for future generations. To do this he uses innovative engineering solutions and is working to educate professionals, clients and engineers on the best way to manage what should be regarded as a resource rather than a commodity. He also investigates business models that will fund infrastructure in the future.

Suman earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the Bangalore University in India in 1992 and worked in structural engineering and project management in India before moving to Australia in 1998 where was involved in a range of infrastructure projects. After coming to New Zealand in 2001 he worked as a three-waters (stormwater, wastewater and drinkable water) engineer on a range of major projects involving water use, treatment, collection and delivery. Suman earned his MBA from the University of Auckland in 2016 and joined Babbage in 2018
