We project managed a full site expansion including infrastructure works.

Clandeboye, South Canterbury

The project

One of Fonterra’s largest sites, Clandeboye processes up to 12.4 million litres of milk per day. This equates to around 40 per cent of all milk collected by Fonterra in the South Island, making the site home to New Zealand’s largest liquid load carrying fleet of trucks.
Babbage won this project on a selected tender basis. Our involvement extended to the full scope of the site expansion.

We project managed a drier capable of producing 25 tonnes of whole milk powder per hour, two new 40mW boilers, upgrade of 11kV reticulation and fire main on site as well as site process services, waste water treatment and disposal requirements.

We utilised the latest technology to complete this project and the Clandeboye drier was completed on time and on budget.

Partnering and Innovation

A formal “Stakeholders” programme was initiated and lead by Babbage resulting in a Stakeholders plan which again was of high value to the project and all participants.

All innovations available for consideration were reviewed at the start of the project and those implemented have resulted in the lowest cost per tonne of product on capital and energy usage.
