We helped create the capacity for growth in a niche dairy market.

The project

The Dairy Goat Co-operative has been expanding its share of the New Zealand export market in recent years. Babbage has been alongside using our vast dairy development experience to see its planned infrastructure projects come to fruition.

Dairy Goat Co-operative’s already replete facilities consist of an original drier unit, a dry blend and canning unit, product development and technical quality services facilities and a can manufacturing plant.

With our input, addition of the new milk drier has the capacity to increase production of the Co-operative’s niche infant formula by 400 per cent and has created 20 additional jobs.

The project took 12 months to complete and in a clear example of our multi-disciplinary approach, involved our Geotechnical and Building Services Engineers as well as our project managers who ensured the project was completed on time and on budget.

Partnering and innovation

Babbage’s project management team provided contract management and coordination services for the main drier contract, design management, on-site presence and co-ordination of site activities.

We tracked progress and financial reporting throughout and co-ordinated technical designers and consultants. This project was delivered with a focus on closely integrating the Babbage and Dairy Goat Co-operative teams.

The Co-operative’s expertise was utilised to ensure the technical specification met all requirements, while Babbage managed the tendering process.

During the construction phase our project management team worked closely with Dairy Goat Co-operative’s operations team to ensure the project was delivered with minimal interruption of the existing drier facility.

This integrated approach ensured that the existing drier was closed down for a mere three week period.
