Process and Mechanical Engineering

From dairy factories to refineries, from new build to plant optimisation.

Babbage’s process engineering team has a wealth of expertise when it comes to large scale industrial process plants.
From dairy processing plants, food and pharmaceuticals manufacturing, to heavy industry manufacture of products like petrochemicals and steel, Babbage’s experience is second to none and includes working on many world scale plants both in New Zealand and internationally.

Our Process Engineering team works closely with plant owners and operators to design, build and optimise the process systems that drive their business. We carry out investigations and audits of existing plant, conduct feasibility studies, and go on to complete full engineering and construction of new or expanded plants.

An integral part of the service we provide is running HAZOP studies – these are a structured examination by all stakeholders of problems that cause risk to people or equipment or prevent efficient operation.

The team also regularly draws on resources from the rest of the Babbage group, bringing in skills and experience from the Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Services Teams and of course Civil Engineering as required.

We provide expert laser scanning of piping systems, where our skilled operators understand the key requirements of scanning and processing the results when used for 3D piping modelling.

Our Mechanical Engineering team work hand in hand with the process team and focus on the physical plant itself.
Our Process and Mechanical engineers and designers are adept at laying out plant facilities to provide efficient, safe, ergonomically sound and flexible manufacturing environments.

The team provides design and engineering of process utility systems such as steam, refrigeration, water and waste treatment in varied environments right across New Zealand. We are also regularly involved in conducting energy audits which aim to compare efficiency at client’s plants with industry benchmarks and identify where improvements can and should be made.

We specialize in the design of pressure equipment and process piping systems and have over 20 years of experience working within the dairy industry throughout Australasia. Our engineers and designers are fluent in the application of the relevant codes, regulations and best practices in designing these important systems.

We also work closely with the client’s engineering team to ensure that new plant conforms to their safety, engineering and preferred equipment standards.
